EVERYTHING
eSC

The eSkootr Championship (eSC) is a completely new category of sport that will see riders racing specially developed electric scooters around eSC-designed circuits in the heart of the city and at speeds of more than 100 km/h. Starting in London in May 2022, the ground-breaking series will be truly gender neutral, attracting athletes from diverse backgrounds to make up eSC's line-up of riders.

Through the engaging and exciting platform of sport, eSC will also promote the use of safe and sustainable micromobility transportation in urban areas. eSC will take learnings in safety, design and technology from the track to consumer road electric scooter development.

Making a positive impact as it races in the heart of cities around the globe, eSC offers the opportunity to be part of an organisation that transcends sport.

THE ROUTE TO THE FINAL

As an organised sport operating to the highest standards on the international stage, eSC is run according to regulations that ensure that participation is safe, fair, inclusive, sustainable, affordable and entertaining.

Those rules are decided and regulated by the sport’s governing body, the Commission for Micromobility and Sport, and all the participating parties in the championship undertake to apply and observe them.

NEW SPORTING HEROES COMPETING ON EQUAL TERMS

A new sport needs new sporting heroes and eSC’s vision is for the world’s most inclusive racing series, both in terms of the riders’ sporting background and gender.

The eSkootr Championship (eSC) is the world's first electric scooter racing series featuring professional athletes who have come from across the world, from a range of different sports to form our pool of riders and compete to be the first ever eSkootr Champion in 2022.

More than 500 athletes applied for the 2022 eSC Rider Programme and after an intensive period of testing and training, eSC selected its final 30 riders.

Boost Button

Similar to the power boosts available in other categories of motorsport, each rider is allowed an extra 20% boost of power from the battery for a burst of speed. By pressing and holding the boost button a timer records the length of time boost is deployed — this will be capped by a time limit which will be decided by the eSC Race Director. The length of time will roll-over across the heats to enable an extra strategic dimension to the racing.

Safety

The safety apparel of leathers, gloves and helmets worn by eSC riders is similar to that used by motorbike racers. A kill switch is  attached to the rider’s wrist so if they leave the S1-X, the scooter will shut down instantly. The height of the riders has meant a new barrier technology has been developed, which has involved research with crash-test dummies. Brand new bespoke kerbs for 11-inch diameter wheels have been designed. In collaboration with a company known as Impact Detect, a system is being trialled to attach sensors to the rider to monitor deceleration and forces in the event of an impact. And the traditional warning system of yellow and red flags will be adopted from bike racing.

Brakes

The brakes are connected both front and rear wheels from standardmotorbike-style levers on the handlebars (right is front brake, left is rear)and utilised heat-treated discs with two-piston hydraulic brakes. Riderpreference for the control and use of brakes has resulted in different styles. One option is to apply the front brake to help get the scooter turned into abend sharply, while others choose to use the rear brake to help rotate thescooter more smoothly into the corner.

SMALL DIMENSIONS, BIG PERFORMANCE

Through a partnership with eSC’s Official Tyre Partner PMT  tyres, we have developed a durable but raceable tyre compound based on their intermediate range. With a small tread pattern, the 11-inch diameter tyre is designed to perform in both wet and dry weather, which is not currently the case for normal escooters.
The tyre regulations will allow the rider to have six sets per weekend, three of each compound: soft and hard. The white eSC labelled tyres are the softer and the yellow labelled tyres with eSC logo are harder.
Riders have the option to run one compound on the front and a different compound on the rear if they choose.
eSC’s Official Tyre Partner PMT has developed a tyre capable of meeting the unique demands of the S1-X racing scooter and with sustainability and environmental performance at the heart of the R&D programme.
